The history of this particular rendering of the coat of arms is unknown but it has appeared in most if
not all of the "A" households at one time or another. If anyone knows who
painted the originals or what the source for the design was, let me know and I'll include
it.
As to the question of the "Weiser" name (vs. Wysor), see the following from
Sharon:
"According to the book 'Old Sherry', the spelling was changed by a Henry Wysor,
married to Cynthia Charlton, because their neighbors did not pronounce the name correctly.
She felt that a more phonetically correct spelling would help. Boy! was she wrong. They
were married on May 31, 1811, which would suggest that it happened sometime after that.
However, there is a chronology done by J. M. Wysor in 1938, which uses the new spelling
for Henry Wysor I, who was married to Barbara Ann Ripseed. They are the parents of the
aforementioned Henry Wysor. Henry Wysor I, is the son of Adam Weiser. Since Henry Wysor I
was born in 1755 and died in 1844, perhaps the first story is true, and the father and son
both changed the spelling at the same time." |
